Performance Winter/Snow tires, for sports car drivers in the lower snow belt, are designed to strike a more even balance between traction in winter’s snow, slush and ice vs. handling/traction on clear roads.

Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D
Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60
Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4

The alpin PA3 is more “performance” oriented but lacks the grip in inclement conditions that the PA4 has.

I love my LM60s. During a snowstorm I went out and was able to go up on an incline through 6″ of soft snow.
