these tires is ok mid range. not the best. price wise ok. it is what is needed to get around. no winter tire is perfect for every condition.. some is best for snow some for colder wet weather. i use ok tires on my Volvo 940 my front is Nokian and rear is Yokohama. i’m not happy with the Yokohama tires. thery stil work 😉 i gues you get what you pay for. look at Daily drive on the snow covered roads in Norway tires made for stud’s need a harder rubber compound to hold the studs. those tires without studs is to be avoided in real snow and cold condition’s.
General makes a great tire. Even their all seasons are good. My Volvo dealer now recommends them on my 2002 S40. My winter tire is currently a Michelin Xi2 and will get General once I wear them down.
But the Michelin do work very well in winter on clean roads – very little noise and a firm responsive feel once roads are clear.
The pattern is stolen from Nokian Tyres “Hakkepelitta 7”. They have been making that tread design for years it’s just in the more recent years other companies realize that it’s better than the patterns they have been using. I’m sure these work well but there’s no comparison to a real set of Nokian tyres. They will perform better and last longer (and cost more) but you’ll get your moneys worth.
I put 205/55/16’s on my 2013 Elantra. My stock rims were 52 mm offset, I got 45mm offset steel 6.5×16 from PMC tire, these Altimax Arctics are quiet and handle great, made in Germany, better ride than the oem Contiprocontact. I was a bit concerned about the Q speed rating, but 100mph in winter? 91Q vs 89H load rating for the OEM’s; still to discover winter performance, made my decision mostly from TireRack reviews.
Winter tires give better traction in snow and ice because of their unique shaped sipes what peel away moisture as well as material that is softer than other tires in colder temperatures (lower than 45 F). Blizzaks are one of my favorite tires. Although I really like X-Ices as well. Their performance difference is only marginal though. For a more affordable solution, Dunlop winter maxx or Gaspics are good too.
There is a great website called: changethosetires.com where they features winter tire recommendations for safe driving in snow and ice. You guy should check it out.
Drive safe everyone!
Studded tires are illegal in Canada or Ontario . I like how the tread looks like my Hakkapelliitta RSi’s , must be a good design . Yours are a good choice .
Continental, Goodyear, Nokian etc top brands make good winter tires. Dont use no name cheap china copies. Yes, they might be good for a season or two but after few years they become plastic not like good guality ones. And yes, all season really does fot only for 3 seasons out of 4. You can drive in summer with what ever you want, unless you are streetracer and you need performance stuff.
