I’ve always used simple green on my wheels. You don’t have to worry about which wheel; aluminum, magnesium, steel, it doesn’t matter. The simple green cuts through greases and brake dust and its safer than other caustic chemicals. I use simple green a lot cleaning the interior of my car including upholstery and carpets. Such a cheap versatile chemical.

I did some painting in a nuclear plant and we used simple green to prep surfaces before painting. the nuclear plant had access to just about any material they wanted to use without cost being an issue and still decided that simple green was the way to go!
I had similar results, did a video (which anyone can also check on my channel) with BDP and Black Magic, also like suggested here, had to use a brush and it wasn’t the “touchless” magic as they say it is… works better if wheels are cleaned on regular basis of course…
